Framing Statement: My own major is sustainability & business, which is something that one would think is pretty far away from ideas surrounding theory in literature. But through this course, I have learned that theories are present in so much more than literary works, and can be found, and should be discussed in all forms of media. With this being said, in the world of business and sustainability, the ideas of our preconceived notions and biases surrounding how businesses should be run is a heavily debated topic, and something that needs to be discussed if we want to have a more sustainable future. In order to get to that future, we need to question everything from how we do business to what we even consider nature to be in the first place, and theories are not only helpful in this endeavor, but necessary if we are to discuss these topics in a way that gets everyone on the same page. Because as of right now, there are so many perspectives, that making change is impossible unless we acknowledge that there will be differences and work with those differences to come up with a solution that works for people and saves the planet. In learning about these theories, it is easier to put yourself in the mindset of others, especially since all these different lenses can be applied to the same thing, giving us practice in viewing things from a perspective which is not usually our own. This recognition of difference will be so helpful moving forward because it is through the recognition and acceptance of differences that people can learn to work together. So I would agree with the statement that no works can ever be free of theory, because theories have become names for differing perspectives on the same topics, and that idea has been around since ideas have been discussed, and it is not going away anytime soon.
