Quotation: “Because we know our inaction and inertia will be the inheritance of the next generation. Our blunders become their burdens. But one thing is certain. If we merge mercy with might and might with right, then love becomes our legacy and change, our children’s birth right.” (lines 83-90).
Comment: I appreciate the inspiration behind these words, but up until this point, it has been partially the previous generation’s refusal to change and inertia which is now the overwhelming climate crisis. She is right in saying that blunders become burdens, because that is exactly what happened. It is such a powerful thing to want to pass on love and as a result change to their children, but as of right now, it seems hard to find that love present in both our national and global climate. But I also completely agree that it will be love and mercy which will lead the start to true, lasting change, because if we want to change our behavior, we need to change our mindset.
Question: I wonder if the idea of females not being given a full character development and only being present in the gaze of men as said by Mulvey was present as much in news and/or speakers as it was in Hollywood. Are there still aspects of it that are still present today?
